How to Clean a Green. Yellow, and Black Pool
Because of algae present in your pool water, it can make your pool turned into a bad looking swamp. And here are some tips on how to clean a green, yellow, and black pool.
There are types of algae that can turn your pool look green, yellow or even black.
Types of Algae
-
Green Algae
What makes a pool look green? This is because of Chlorophyta.
Chlorophyta is commonly known as green algae and sometimes, loosely, as seaweed. Chlorophyta or Prasinophyta is a taxon of green algae informally called chlorophytes.
This problem increases very fast in your pool. Especially when you don’t have enough chlorine in your pool water. Your pool may turn from a bit cloudy to an obvious green color in just one day.
-
Yellow Algae
Yellow Algae or commonly called mustard algae. Mustard algae is a chlorine-resistant form of green algae that often resembles dirt or sand on the bottom or sides of the pool.
If debris or leaves look like pollen or there are lumps of sand accumulated in the corner of your pool most likely you’ll have a yellow pool in no time.
-
Black Algae
Black algae is a living organism that grows on porous swimming pool surfaces. And it shows up in the form of black spots. It has a nasty habit of settling into corners, steps, and other hard-to-reach areas. And it flourishes in both sun and shade.
This is another type of cyanobacteria, but this black version is not true algae. This digs its roots deep into your pool walls, making it strangely resistant to chlorine.
How to get rid of green, yellow, and black pool:
-
Check water balance
Keep your pH, alkalinity and sanitizer levels in the correct order at all times.
-
Keep your pool pump and pool filter running
Run your pump and filter 8–12 hours a day, all year long.
-
Brushing and vacuuming
Keep your pool clean with regular brushing and vacuuming.
-
Shock your pool
Shocking your pool once a week would be a great help in keeping your pool clean and out of algae.
