Essential Skin Care Tips
Chlorine and other chemicals are necessary for pools to keep them clean and safe to swim. But chlorine that kills bacteria can strip away protective natural oils in your skin.
Here are some recommendation in caring for your skin before and after swimming:
-
Equip your skin with SPF
To avoid that uncomfortable itch and redness we recommend prepping your skin with an SPF lotion or cream. Using a waterproof sunscreen is not just a lavish way to avoid tanning. Your SPF cream or lotion will allow your skin to have a protective barrier. It will keep the chlorine from drying up your skin excessively. It will also prevent sun damage and premature aging.
Better apply the products about 15 minutes before you intend to swim. In this way, your skin can have plenty of time to absorb the sunblock or SPF lotion or cream.
-
Shower before and after a swim
A quick shower before diving into a pool is more than often rules especially for public pools. Showering before a dip keeps not only the pool from getting too dirty it also helps hydrate your skin. Keeping your skin from absorbing the pool water.
NOTE:
If its important to take a quick shower before a dip it is also very important to take a shower after a swim.
Rinse off those chlorine and don’t let it sit on your skin for a long period of time.
-
Moisturize your skin
Moisturizing your skin after a swim is very important for a swimmer’s skin care routine. This is to ensure that your skin stays healthy. Moisturize to restore hydration to the skin.
NOTE:
When we say moisturize, it is from head to toe.
-
Don’t air dry
After a cool dip, it’s not a good idea to let the sun dry you off. Air drying can lead to skin dryness. Rinse off with clean water and dry yourself with a clean towel. And do not forget to put some SPF to moisturize your skin.
