Make your Pool Spring Ready

Spring opening is one of the most exciting times of the year. Because after months of cold weather it will be the swimming season again. Swimming is a fun activity, especially for kids and young at heart. Opening your pool can also be fun with these tips from My Pool Guy.

Drain and clean the pool cover

Remove leaves and debris off the pool cover. Drain as much water as possible before removing it. If you have a solid cover, drain the water using a submersible pump. After removing the pool cover, lay it out and brush away the remaining debris. Clean the cover before storing it.

Raise the water level back to normal

Use a garden hose or water supply to begin raising the water level back to its normal level. The water level needs to be midway up the skimmer before the pump and filter can start.

While waiting for the water level to increase you can check all the other pool equipment.

Once is all ready and you can see the water is clear enough to see the bottom you can now:

Vacuum any leaves and debris

Sometimes there will be some remaining dirt and debris from the winter so its time to clean the pool. These include areas near pool steps, ladders, and all other equipment.

Check the pH level

Once the pool is clean you can now circulate the system for several hours and you can now check a sample of the water. The water must be:
pH level 7.4 to 7.6 ppm
total alkalinity 80 to 120 ppm
Chlorine 2.0 to 4.0 ppm
Once the proper chemical levels have been achieved, you can set the swimming pool timer to operate on schedule.
